Former NFL kicker and the league’s only placekicker ever to be named MVP

Mark Moseley, former NFL kicker and the league’s only placekicker ever to be named Most Valuable Player, is a true story of perseverance, leadership, and success both on and off the field. Drafted in the 14th round of the 1970 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, Mark went on to play for the Houston Oilers before finding his home with the Washington Redskins in 1974. Over the next decade, he rewrote Washington’s record books—becoming the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, setting a then-single season scoring record of 161 points in 1983, and finishing his career with 1,382 points and 300 field goals. During the strike-shortened 1982 season, he achieved near perfection, hitting 20 of 21 field goals, and was awarded the NFL MVP, an honor no other kicker has ever earned. He helped lead Washington to victory in Super Bowl XVII and was twice selected to the Pro Bowl, cementing his place as one of the greatest kickers in league history.

After retiring from the NFL in 1987, Mark carried his work ethic and leadership into the business world. He initially pursued ventures in real estate and small business before becoming the Director of Franchise Sales for Five Guys. In this role, he helped guide the company’s expansion from just two stores to over 2,000 locations across 39 countries worldwide, making Five Guys one of the most recognized and respected brands in the fast-casual restaurant industry. His unique perspective on teamwork, discipline, and building excellence has made him a sought-after business leader and motivational speaker.

Mark’s story is also one of faith, family, and resilience. He is deeply involved in charitable organizations, including the Lions Club, Scouting America, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and the Ronald McDonald House. A devoted husband and father, he is proud of his five children, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, who keep him grounded and inspired. Whether sharing lessons from the gridiron or insights from building a global franchise, Mark Moseley is authentic, engaging and motivational to everyone he meets.

Be Prepared. More than a motto.

At Scouting America, Great Rivers Council, we are driven by a single goal; to do our part in making the world a better place for all. We strive to build productive relationships and make a positive impact with all of our pursuits.
